What to Do After Umrah: Complete Post-Pilgrimage Guide

Congratulations on Completing Umrah!

You've just completed a beautiful act of worship. The Prophet ﷺ said: "One Umrah to the next is an expiation for what is between them." (Bukhari & Muslim)

Now, make the most of your remaining time in the sacred lands.

Immediate Steps After Umrah

1. Make Dua of Gratitude

Thank Allah for enabling you to complete Umrah:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ

"All praise is to Allah who guided us to this, and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us."

2. Continue Praying in the Haram

The Prophet ﷺ said: "One prayer in Masjid al-Haram is worth 100,000 prayers elsewhere." (Ibn Majah)

Don't waste this opportunity! Pray as many prayers as possible in the Haram.

3. Perform Extra Tawaf (Tawaf al-Nafl)

You can perform unlimited Tawaf now that your Umrah is complete. Each Tawaf is a separate act of worship.

Now carry that blessing home:

  • In your prayers
  • In your character
  • In your treatment of others
  • In your relationship with Allah

May Allah accept your Umrah and bring you back again and again!

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا وَسَعْيًا مَشْكُورًا وَذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا

"O Allah, make it an accepted Hajj/Umrah, an effort that is appreciated, and a sin that is forgiven."

Quran and Sunnah references

  • Quran 2:196 on completing Hajj and Umrah for Allah.
  • Quran 3:97 on the obligation of Hajj for those able to undertake it.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim: Umrah to Umrah expiates sins between them.
